Work Experience at Scudamore's Punting Company

A Working Experience

Our induction to Scudamore's:

On the first day of our work experience, we were given an induction to the company. Starting with a talk on the company and its history we were then given a tour around the main stations on the river known as "yard", “bridge” and “steps”. We were introduced to the staff, shown the safety procedures and how to use the on-site equipment. Staff are friendly and have great communication skills. They co-operate with each other well and helped us to understand how things work on a day to day basis.

Boat Handling:

The next day, the line manager showed us the techniques for manual boat handling. We were tasked with “bailing” water out of boats and replacing equipment such as cushions and blankets. There's always the risk that this will need to be re-done later as they could get wet from the rain or from other elements within the environment.

Shared Punt Tour:

On the third day of our work experience, we were given a free tour by the company and we observed the level of performance from the tour guide. The tour we went on involved stories, humour and relaxation. Scudamore's have an organised tour assessment scheme with regular chauffeur tests. The strategies ensure that each of the guides give acurate and interesting tours, thus maintaining their reputation as market leaders in tour quality.

What do we like about Scudamore's?

The level and focus on customer service from the staff of Scudamore's was to a very high standard. The facts and information they gave also contained humour, adaptability and covered a very interesting level of local history. The company creates a great environment for employees to develop and grow, leading to a fantastic working atmosphere.
