Grantchester Paddle Board Hire - Scudamore's Boatyard Cambridge

Grantchester Paddle Board Hire

Paddle board to Grantchester

Closed for winter. Open from 01st April 2025 again.

Journey out from central Cambridge along the River Cam’s rural Upper River route, by way of stand-up paddle board. Stand-up paddle boarding is both great fun, and great for fitness.

We offer inflatable stand-up paddle boards to hire for 90 minutes, 3 hours or 6 hours.

90 minutes gives you the time to view the peaceful scenery surrounding the Upper River, including quiet Cambridge parks such as Sheep’s Green. 3 hours provides time for further exploration along the river, and more exercise or choose the 6 hour option if you want to have a break on the meadows. Stand-up paddle boarding can be a great way to build and maintain fitness, balance, and strength.

Each of our paddle boards accommodates one person, and can be hired from our Boatyard Punt Station. If you wish to bring a canine companion along for your adventure, there is room on our boards to do so (one dog per board).

We provide life jackets  (for both humans and canines!), and can provide dry bags upon request.

Yes. All of our paddle boards require pre-booking online and are not available for purchase at our kiosks.

Can I change my booking time?

Yes. The time and date of your booking can be changed up to 1 hour in advance. Just follow the unique link in your e-booking confirmation where you can select a new date and time.

Our paddle boards are limited to 1 person maximum.

Personal buoyancy aids (life vests for swimmers or life jackets for non-swimmers) are included as part of the hire and must be worn. Dry bags are offered for every booking. Life vests for dogs are provided on request.

What should I wear?

We suggest that you wear something you don’t mind getting wet. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather and boating activity. If you choose to wear shoes you need to make sure you have the correct footwear, that is non-slip, stable, can’t fall off easily and offers protection to your toes and heel. Non-slip soles and clothes that will not impede swimming in case of capsising.
