Many of our self-hire customers wish to hire one or two craft for just an hour or so, and this is best done on a walk-up basis. Availability is usually very good: it can get busy on weekend afternoons from 13:00 to 17:00, and queues are possible, but with boats returning at regular intervals long waiting times are uncommon.

Before hire commences we take a security deposit of a credit card imprint, ask you to read and sign our hire Terms & Conditions, and then issue your time-stamped ticket. You don't need to commit to a specific hire period in advance, as this type of hire is flexible and open-ended. There is a minimum charge of one hour's hire, after which your hire continues to be charged at the same hourly rate, but broken down to the nearest 6 minutes. This helps us to charge you as accurately as possible when you return to pay at the end of your hire period.

You can also plan ahead and save money with our convenient Self-Hire E-Ticket, which entitles you to a leisurely 90 minute self-hire session at a discounted rate. Should you then wish to stay out beyond 90 minutes, any further hire is charged at the standard hourly rate, broken down to the nearest 6 minutes. Self-hire E-Tickets are available for Canadian canoes, kayaks and rowboats, as well as punts.

If you are a group requiring 5+ craft or a cumulative total of 5+ hours of hire, we should be able to accommodate a pre-booking if the booking start time falls outside our peak hours (which tend to be weekend afternoons). Fixed rate All Day hire for Grantchester is perfect for those who want to get away from it all and not have to rush back. It is the ideal way to combine a leisurely river trip with a picnic, lunch at the Red Lion or afternoon tea at the Orchard.

All Day craft are available at our Main Boatyard between 09:00 and 14:00 only, and should be returned by 21:00 or the day's closing time, whichever is earlier. When we are open beyond 21:00 you may stay out later; any extra hire is simply charged at the day's standard hourly rate, broken down to the nearest 6 minutes.

All Day craft are available for Grantchester only. This type of hire is available on station on the day and can also be pre-booked. For further information on advance sales please click here.

For many people, the river is at is best in the late evening or early morning. For those who are prepared to venture forth, we are pleased to offer Overnight Hire for both punts and rowboats.

Overnight Hire is available at our Main Boatyard from 17:00 until closing time and craft should be returned by 09:00 the next morning. They are self-locking, allowing hirers to return at any time. Overnight Hire is available for Grantchester only.

This type of hire is available on station on the day. We also accept pre-bookings. For further information on advance sales please click here. We regret that Overnight Hire is not available for Canadian canoes or kayaks.

Rates
Prices: apply to the fixed rate period (17:00 to 09:00 the next day). Hire beyond the fixed rate period reverts to an hourly charge. Security deposit: required before hire commences. Full hire Terms & Conditions: available here.
Book Now Punt Rowboat	£90.00. Payment: before the commencement of hire. Validity: online bookings must be made at least 48 hours beforehand. Phone bookings can usually be made after this time, subject to availability.

The Wind in the Willows

We offer an individual user and dual user Season Tickets which entitle users to one free self-hire session, seven days a week. Each session can be as short as an hour or as long as all day.

Season Tickets can be used to take out one of our traditional 6-person punts on routes along the beautiful College Backs or out towards the idyllic Grantchester Meadows. Alternatively, Canadian canoes, kayaks and rowboats can be hired for trips out towards Grantchester Meadows.

We offer two main types of ticket, the Newton (for one user) and the Pepys (for dual users). Tickets can be purchased for the Summer Season (valid 1st March - 30th September) or on an Annual basis (valid for one year from purchase date). You can buy your ticket in advance online or by phone. Self hire boats must be returned before the day's closing time, usually around dusk.

Please note: Season Tickets are valid from our Mill Lane punt station. Users must take their Season Ticket away with them on return of the hire boat. Dual user Season Ticket holders will need to arrange when and how to swap the ticket between themselves.
