Self-Hire Terms & Conditions

1. Notice of risk All craft and equipment are let to hirers at their own risk. Scudamore’s Punting Company Limited (hereinafter “the Company”) will not be responsible in any way for any accident, injury, damage or loss, whether direct or indirect, arising from the hire or use thereof (save for the Company’s liability for death or personal injury caused by the negligence of the Company, its employees or agents).
2. Notice of responsibility The hirer shall be responsible for any accident, injury, damage or loss and for all damage to the craft and equipment arising from the hire or use thereof or from any breach by the hirer of these conditions and shall indemnify the Company from and against all claims, demands, liabilities, expenses and costs which may be brought against or incurred by the Company as a result of any accident, injury or loss arising from such hire use or breach (other than death or personal injury resulting from the negligence of the Company, its employees or agents).
3. Reasonable use The hirer shall use the craft and equipment in a proper and careful manner.
4. Hire deposit A deposit for each craft hired will be required before hiring commences. Such deposit will be refunded on return of the craft and on production of the hire ticket PROVIDED all hiring charges are paid and no claim arises under paragraph 2 of these conditions. The Company shall have the right to retain the said deposit towards all hiring charges and towards the cost of any loss or damage arising under paragraph 2 of these conditions.
5. Minimum charge The minimum charge is one hour’s hire for hourly hire craft or the allotted hire period for fixed rate hire craft. Thereafter the hire charge is calculated pro rata to the nearest part of the hour as indicated at the ticket office.
6. Term of hire Hire commences upon obtaining a ticket and continues until the ticket is clocked in, whereupon immediate payment of the hire charge must be made.
7. The rollers Craft must not be taken up or down the rollers.
8. Chaining craft For safety reasons hirers must not chain craft together.
9. Maximum capacities No more than 13 persons may occupy a ferry punt*, 6 persons occupy a single punt, 5 persons occupy a rowboat*, 4 persons occupy a canoe*, 2 persons occupy a double kayak* or 1 person occupy a single kayak* (* denotes craft available for hire from the Main Boatyard in the direction of Grantchester only). Hirers overloading craft will be charged double rate for the entire duration of hire.
10. Late returns Hirers failing to return the craft and equipment by the closing time of the hire station, as displayed at the ticket office, may be charged, at the Company’s discretion, treble rate for each hour or part thereof after the said closing time.
11. Disclaimer Scudamore’s craft and equipment are hired subject to the above conditions and are not hired subject to any other condition or warranty, express, implied or statutory and any conditions or warranties other than the above conditions are hereby expressly excluded insofar as permitted by statute.
