...the eternal whisper of the Scotch firs just above us, and of the
sea in front. Yet, in all this quiet, an acute, an acrid consciousness
of a restrained hostility very near us, like a dog on a leash that
might be let go at any moment.
A Warning to the
Curious ~ M R James
On Friday 21st September Robert Lloyd Parry of
Nunkie Theatre will be
performing Oh, Whistle from his widely-praised trilogy of M R James ghost story evenings,
at the twelfth century Leper Chapel on Newmarket Road.
The title story, Oh, Whistle, and I'll Come to You, My Lad, a
tale of nocturnal horror on the Suffolk coast, is considered by many
to be the author's masterpiece. It is beautifully complemented here by
The Ash Tree, a story of witchcraft and vengeance down the
generations.
The performance starts at 20:00 prompt and is scheduled to last approximately 100 minutes, including an interval. Tickets are available online or by telephone on 01223 359750. Pre-booking is strongly recommended as this show usually sells out.
