School Visits Policy
We suggest that you distribute a copy of this document to each staff member accompanying your group on the day.
Confirmation Details of your booking time(s), date and specified activities are shown on your booking confirmation form(s). Please check them carefully and let us know of any changes immediately.
Terms & conditions Your booking is subject to our Booking Terms & Conditions. Please read through them.
Special requirements If you have any particular questions or special requirements for your visit please contact us.
Supervision Pupils remain your responsibility at all times during your visit. Pupils, aged 18 years or under, must be accompanied by a staff member at all times.
Staff-student ratios Tours groups: We advise a ratio of 1 staff member per 10 pupils.
Self-hire groups: We advise 1 staff member per punt for groups with pupils younger than 15. For older groups we advise the same ratio as for tours groups.
Risk assessment Whilst we are able to provide a general risk assessment document for schools we strongly recommend that you carry out your own risk assessment, perhaps during a free teacher familiarisation visit. Please contact us if you would like to take up this offer.
Footwear Please ensure that your group wear suitable footwear; we recommend deck-shoes, plimsolls, trainers or other flat, rubber-soled shoes. Not recommended: heels and platform shoes, as they compromise balance; leather soled shoes, as they offer poor grip if they come into contact with water; flip-flops and sandals without a backstrap, as they can increase the risk of tripping accidents and expose feet to impact injuries.
Life-jackets If any of your group require life-jackets on the day please contact us in advance to let us know how many will be needed and the ages of the recipients.
Materials Please bring your booking confirmation form(s) and copies of this document. PDF copies of this document are available upon request.
Arrival Please go to the designated waiting area by the punt station.
Mill Lane stations: Laundress Green, opposite the Mill Pub.
Magdalene Bridge: The Quayside pedestrian area, by our station.
Station check-in The group leader should report to the punt station to announce the group's arrival, confirm numbers and, if applicable, submit any service vouchers. The Scudamore's cashier will then confirm when the group's punts are ready for boarding.
Discipline Please ensure that members of your group have been briefed to listen to any requests, instructions and safety given by Scudamore's staff. If your pupils only speak basic English please ensure that a bilingual leader is on hand to translate at the embarkation point.
Noise Noise levels should be kept to acceptable levels at all times. Groups making excessive noise may be spoken to by a member of Scudamore's staff.
Boarding When the punts are ready the group should be sent down to the station sub-divided into groups of 6 (self-hire) or 12 (chauffeured). Punts should only be boarded with the permission and assistance of Scudamore's staff.
Disembarkation Groups should only disembark with the permission and assistance of Scudamore's staff. Once disembarked, groups should move off station as quickly as possible for their own safety and to avoid blocking the pontoons and access areas.
